Yoni Wisdom: Jouney with me on an erotic weekend fantasy.
My eager hand presses between my legs warming my Yoni. I'm curled on my side in a nest of pillows at a weekend tantra retreat. My randomly selected partner is spooning me from behind. In this "yoni speak" exercise, his role is to ask my vagina what she wants, then listen, without jugdement to the deep wisdom of my womb.
We follow the teachers instructions:
I guide his free hand to rest on top of mine, flowing additional attention to my yoni. Then he asks:
"What does your yoni want?"
"I want Time & Patience."
"What does your yoni really want?
"I want adoration and respect."
After several rounds of these standard answers, my yoni begins to really speak:
"I want your full attention. I want to go away for the weekend...to get a break from the kids and computers, ringing phones, and even our spouses.
I want you to undress me...slow and lovingly. Strip my clothing off with intention, and watch as gravity takes each garment to the ground.
I want to dance naked for you. Sit down, listen to the percussion music and I'll show you how my body is designed to move. Undulating my hips and breasts and curves to arouse your animal desire.
I want to exhale my hot breath in your mouth, then hold you down and tear off your clothes.
I want to trace my teeth across your neck while scratching your shoulders.
I want you to roll me over and ravish me. Let your body do what it is designed to do. Pausing only briefly to get condoms and lube, perhaps an occasional check-in, but with the sunlight through the hotel window, you'll see the fire in my eyes. The YES burning in my soul. And after our hot animal climax. We'll float down to the mattress and slip between the sheets, entangle our limbs and undress eachother again... this time, emotionally.
I want to get to know you, and all the things that really matter. We could bear our souls. Talking not about politics, philosophy or even religion, but the raw, real truth as it occurs under our skin. We can laugh and be silly at the same time. I want to feed you cut mango and organic berries from Trader Joes. We would take turns listening and speaking until we forget who's turn it is.
I want to smell and taste and tickle you and when the urge arises again, we would follow our desire. This time from the heart.
I want to open and invite you into my soft pink inner sanctum.
I want NOT to care what happens next, just move into each moment, without agenda.
And at the end of the weekend, after three full days of this, I want to be so satisfied that I can go home and concentrate on my career and my son. And when my husband asks, how did it go? I'll say, "Come here, let me show you..." And he'll be grateful to you. Thank you." I say, slipping into silent revelry.
"Thank you." My random partner says with no judgment.
"Namaste." The teacher says completing the exercise.
QUIZ YOURSELF: Which Color Tantra Path is Best for You?
There is a day and night difference between the three types of tantric. They are totally different in quality, quantity, direction, practices, methods, facets, and use.” –Yogi Bhajan
Yogi Bhajan was referring to the White, Pink and Red paths of Tantra. Now that TantraTantra-Palooza is almost upon us, you will have an opportunity to sample a wide range of teachers and styles. So we were inspired to create a quiz to help you determine which type of tantra is best for you: Multiple Choice. For each question, write down the letter that best answers the question. At the end count up how many answers you got of each letter and we will tell you which color tantra is for you.
What is the purpose of your tantra practice?
A. For spiritual purification and to uplift the being.
B. To experience the sensuality of my spirit.
C. To sustain sexual energy and artistry.
D. To obtain mental control of other people.
The central focus of my practice is characterized by:
A. Breathwork
B. Subtle energetic touch
C. Intoxicating chemistry
D. Total annihilation of the ego
When it comes to tradition I like:
A. A well respected linage
B. Picking and Choosing what works for me.
C. Unorthodox creativity
D. Absolute defiance of social norms
When it comes to quantity, I always say:
A. "Waste not, want not"
B. "Everything in moderation"
C. "Excess is everything"
D."Go to the extremes or die"
When it comes to sex:
A. I sublimate my sensuality to a higher spiritual purpose
B. I play in the sublet and sensual realm
C. Bring it on!
D. Sex is merely a state whereas death is absolute.
What company do you prefer to practice in:
A. The presence of my guru and fellowship
B. With my spiritual community
C. Alone with my lover(s)
D. Ghosts and dead bodies
Now add up all your answers and see which Path is most aligned with yours:
A. White Tantra
White Tantra orients around the subtle practices and philosophies. Physical touch and sexual practices are not necessary in order to advance on this path. Tibetan Tantric Buddhist monks, for example, can engage in profound love making rites with deities through meditation and visualization. Vajrayana Tantra involves many powerful concentration exercises that bring universal awareness down from the crown chakra into the heart, without activating the lower chakras. Yogi Bhajan's Kundalini Yoga also offers partnered exercises that include eye gazing, and breathing and sounding exercises that circulate and build sensual energy without sexual contact. Similar practices are commonly referred to as Solo Practice, Right-Handed Tantra or the path of the Dakhsini Marga or Bramachari.
B. Pink Tantra
Pink Tantra embraces both the spiritual and the sexual aspects of the practice. This is the path where the heart is opened and lovemaking is practiced with honor and reverence. It is a merging of embodied souls, for both pleasure and enlightenment. This path can also encompass transcendental lovemaking, Taoist sexual healing arts and the sweet, sensual exercises in modern Tantra pujas. This path is sometimes referred to as violet, the middle Tantra or the full path.
C. Red Tantra.
Red Tantra consists of many passionate sexual practices. Traditionally the color red connotes femininity, potency, passion and sex. This path can be liberating for the sexually repressed and may also hold interest for the sexually obsessed. The fiery Kundalini practices of Red Tantra use taste and touch to experience the primal sexual impulse that can create intense purifications and awakenings. Practitioners of Red Tantra see the sacred in the profane and instead of bringing the Kundalini energy up to the crown, they draw spiritual energy down into the root, sex and power chakras. These Tantrikas are also known as Vama Marga, Left-Handed Path and sometimes negatively called California Tantra or the Cult of Ecstasy.
D. Black Tantra.
Black Tantra is the lesser talked about branch of Tantra. After years of advanced Tantric practice, many yogis begin to experience siddhis or supernatural powers. These powers can be used for personal gain or for service. This is an aboriginal Shamanic practice, like black magic, which transforms physical energy with or without the consent of all parties involved. Throughout India today, people seek Tantrikas for hire, like wizards or witch doctors. They are paid to cast spells, end legal battles, even burn down someone's farm. Many people who begin to play with these superpowers often get lost on their path. Instead of advancing towards enlightenment, Black Tantra may lead people further away from enlightenment. The Aghori are an example of an extremely secretive Hindu sect of Black Tantra practitioners. Aghori is a Sanskrit word that means non-terrifying. The practitioners have been known to cover themselves with ash from graveyards and use human bones in their rituals.
Fifteen Minutes of Fame...Uh, make that Ten.
 by Kamala Devi
I remember the day fox news called me to do the Morning show in NYC, I was both excited and terrified. Excited because it is a nationally syndicated show with an enormous viewership, but terrified because I didn't want my open marriage to be made into a farce in front of millions of people. After a brief phone interview, they gave us 2 days notice to pack and arrange daycare. My baby was only 7 months old and still nursing, so I had to pump milk in the airport. There was a limo waiting when we arrived at JFK and it brought us to a glorious historic hotel in the middle of time square. The way they gave us a meal stipend at the front desk made feel like a star or something.
After a beautiful night on the town with some friends in the big city, the limo took us into the studio where we were fed a continental breakfast and ushered into a room with a professional hair stylist who simultaneously curled and straighten my hair. And then there was a seperate room for make-up; where they airbrushed my face and neck. While I was being groomed and quaffed, Michael wandered around the studio doing recognisance to find the counter-point for the show. We were supposed to be the "pros" of open marriage and the "con" would come from a psychologist who felt that in all her years of work, she had never seen it actually work. She felt poly was a precursor to divorce.
During our preparation, we established a fast friendship with a tall and charming woman named Brigita Philippedes, who is one of the founding leaders of Poly NYC (Which is probably the largest Poly organization in the world.) We all hung out together and told jokes while waiting in the green room before being called onto set. When asked what my intention was for the show, I wanted to be clear and confident and wanted spirit to be gentle with me as this was my first experience on National TV.
Throughout the studio there were several live television sets where we could watch the dramatic in depth segment on an eating disorder called "diabolemia." This is a relatively new condition where people with type 1 diabetes deliberately give themselves less insulin than they need, so that they don't get fat. It was a pretty heavy segment, and one of the producers suggested that we remember to have fun and keep things light while on set. When our time arrived, another producers with a head set and a walky-talky ushered us into the wings of the live set and introduced us to our celebrity hosts. "You're on in 2 minutes, One, thirty seconds...
And then the doors flew open and there was a big scream... "Call the medic. Diabetic fit in the second row." A woman fell out of her seat in the live studio audience. "Does anyone have any juice?" The director calls..."Run the emergency roll…" And then we are asked to sit down on the set as they play a 10 minute celebrity interview that was previously recorded to be used on such occasion. During the taping the producers scrambled to cut our 15 minute segment down to five minutes and announced that the counter-point sit would not have time to speak. So Michael and I shared a love seat with Brigita and everyone had just enough time to introduce ourselves and make the point that yes, jealousy comes up, but so do many opportunities for more love. We were cut off and it was announced that we were going to be interviewed in their video blog, but after the show, they were too busy taking care of the diabolemic woman...
As we wrapped up, I got a strong sense that it all unfolded in divine order. There was the relief of having finished, and there was the Revelation that a shortened time slot means there was no counter point and less controversy. Big Sigh and gratitude. Spirit had answered my prayers.
Immediately after the show, we decided to go out to eat with Brigita and her friends. When we all jumped into the same limo,The producers raised an eyebrow and asked is it always that easy to make friends when your open? Ultimately, she wasn't nearly as surprised as the limo driver who eavesdropped on our conversation on how to take over the world with free love. When crossing the street to a busy NY restaurant, several random people called out: "Hey we saw you on TV this morning...Good Job!" And they cheered and clapped. Over lunch we discovered that Brigita and I have a lot of friends and lovers in common, including REiD and other community leaders. That afternoon we met up for coffee with REiD and de-briefed the experience. He gave us a few tips from his experience of dealing with the Media, and reminded us that no matter what happens, all press is good press.
When I got home, I got mixed reviews from my peers. Many people congratulated me for looking beautiful, but felt I didn't say anything new. Several strangers sent mean and scathing words which I've since learned to recognize as "Hate mail." I didn't mind so much about the Christian fundamentalists who feel my lifestyle is an abomination, it's the poly activists I didn't want to let down. Apparently, many poly folk were offended by the subtitled labels under our name, which read,"Michael McClure & Kamala Devi in a polyamorous relationship: the New Swingers." Many of our friends felt that marginalized our relationship. I was crushed. Now some of my friends, and people who don't even know me feel I'm making things worse for the movement. Crushed, I took my heavy heart into my bedroom, pulled the covers over my head and cried. After allowing a reasonable pity party, Michael, bless his soul, pulled the covers off my head and said: "Kamala, you say you want to stop playing small, well, this is what it's like to play big in the world. If you don’t piss a few people off, you're probably not taking big enough risks." And that's exactly what I needed to hear. I got down on my knees and took a vow:
"Great Spirit, you know my desire is to be a voice for freedom and love in the world. I'm no longer attached to what that looks like, I ask that you use me as your instrument. Whatever it takes, I'm willing to be mis-understood; I'm willing to be mis-represented. If you're willing to use me on your behalf, I'm willing to show up."

Sacred Sex has the same rules as theater improv!
By Kamala Devi
It's no secret that I've become infatuated with tantra theater. And when I'm not directing the sacred sexual stories of my friends and lovers in our weekly rehearsals, I'm spending my spare time playing with a new comedy improvisation troupe. What's this obsession about? At first I thought it was just the sultry hot endorphin rush that I got from doing it. Then I realized it is the most ego-confronting practice I've ever engaged in. And now I'm starting to see how this art form is no different from tantra. Infact, famed masters of modern improv, Charna Halpern and Del Close even said:
"Improv is like sex, even when it's bad, its still pretty good."
-- Truth in Comedy.
But they had no idea that many of the basic principles they teach can be cross-applied directly to Sacred Sex. (This is distinctly NOT the case with acting.) Infact, the more someone 'acts' in bed, the less sacred the sex is.
Here are some of the basic tenants of good improv that I could just as easily say about tantra :
- You can not learn it from books, it is a whole body experience that must be practice with devotion.
- The first and most important rule that must not be broken is agreement (Also known as YES...AND) Agreement forwards the action. If there is no agreement in the scene it falls apart. The improvisation dies. It becomes rape!
- A true practitioner must gives up all control without any attachment to how they think the scene should go.
- If you adore and admire your playmates their expression becomes brilliant and by making them look good, you will look better and have more fun!
- Get out of your ego and let a larger story be told.
- Surrender to the spontaneous co-creation in the moment.
- Mistakes are all part of the play.
- No matter how much laughter and play is involved, you must have deep reverence for the craft and the scene must be taken seriously.
- Unlearn your stock responses. Let go of whatever you planning to say. Jokes, like witty pick-up lines will make your audience groan. Don't try to create an effect in your audience, but be true to the deepest impulse that arises in you.
- Trust is essential. Be willing to follow your partners lead.
- Listen deeply to what your partner is saying, not only in their words but in their body language. Take notice and be responsive. Try to recall what they are saying or doing and reflect it back to them later in the scene when it will illuminate new meaning.
- Initate physical movement. Reveal yourself through your actions.
- Interact with your environment
- Don't be afraid of the silence, pausing at the right place can be dramatic.
- Go for group mind...where possible perform as if one player with multiple heads.
- Remember the wise words of Del Close "Listen to your inner voice" and "Take the unusual choice"
- All rules are just suggestions. There is an exception to every rule.
Whether we're in the bedroom or on stage, the spontaneous flow continues. Tantra and Improv continue through everything you do. Practicing either craft can improve your performance in all other aspects of life, from your technical expertise to your sales. I hope to see you at one of our upcoming Tantra theater shows!

Ten Commandments of the Pathless Path...How's that for a paradox?
Inspired by the"Core Principles" of The Tantra Theosophical Society founded by Rev. Janet and Sasha Lessin, I've updated my Credo which I strive to practice without dogma:
1. My body is my temple.
2. I am true to that which I know myself to be.
3. I am not separate from God/Goddess.
4. I practice transparency and compassion in communication.
5. I celebrate the full expression of others.
6. I practice ritual AND experience magic in the mundane.
7. I embrace the non-dual through the paradox of polarity.
8. I recognize every moment is a doorway to love.
9. Sex is one of the highest forms of worship.
10. The Earth and all her creations are sacred.
The "Temple of Tantra" is legally recognizes as an Establishment of religion protected under the first amendment. As an ordained minister, I intend to align with this temple and help it become a more inclusive umbrella for other dakas, dakinis and tantra teachers.
