An enlightening excerpt from Kamala Devi's new Novel: Don't Drink the Punch, An Adventure in Tantra After a deep and expansive meditation during which many people experienced fits of laughter and tears, we sit poised for Saraswati's teachings. Her eyes are immense and dizzying to look at.
“Spontaneous tears, shuddering, and laughter are evidence of the true Self overflowing in the human body, which is generally not able to contain the full glory of the Jiva (the self). We are consciousness, bliss absolute, and when we experience identities, emotions, and phenomena, it is just a fraction of this absolute.
“When we experience an emotion, any single emotion, it is only a partial experience of the whole. Today, you will be initiated into yoga of the deep heart. In its potential form, love is the totality of all emotions. It is the entire spectrum before it passes through the human heart which is a prism that separates feelings like colors. Love is pure white light. From it, all emotions are born.
“Imagine each emotion represented by a single color. Take red, for example. You can liken it to anger. It is only one aspect of the human experience. You could mix it with yellow, which we liken with happiness, and it becomes an excited orange. Mix in another primary color, like blue as sadness, and you might create a whole range of secondary emotions, such as jealousy, hope, disappointment, they are like secondary colors.
“But those are only isolated aspects of the whole, which is Love. The source of all colors is pure white light. It’s analogous to pure devotion for the divine. It comes through different beings in varying wavelengths. Unconditional love is not simply a feeling or the need or an experience of love; it is an energy unto itself. It’s absolute. Love lives in the heart of man, every poet, priest, politician, saint, sinner, and of course every lover. Love is the animating force within this body and within all sentient beings, yet, it’s not that complicated. Love simply is. It's the profundity and the simplicity that you see in a lover's eyes. Just as they are. Just as everything is, right now, and eternally will be. Let us purify our hearts to experience true light.”
We close satsang by passing a ghee lamp and drawing its sacred flame into our heart. I am purified.
